We celebrated World Down Syndrome Day today with lots of activities around the school. The children all wore and proudly showed off lots of their colourful socks to support the campaign #Lotsofsocks. Every pupil in the school designed their own pair of unique socks and displayed them in classrooms. Children read stories and completed activities about advocating for people with disabilities. Children came together to perform the song ‘It’s a better place’ released by the Down Syndrome Centre to mark the day using their voices and Lámh signs in equal measure! We held a fundraiser to help raise vital funds for the centre and raised an amazing €273.
The theme for World Down Syndrome Day 2023 is ‘With Us, Not For Us’ and all of us here in Scoil Ide firmly support that we all should be treated fairly and given equal opportunities in life. We all had a great day!
