Visit to the Round Tower

30th Jan 2023

Third Class were very excited to make a trip to the local Round Tower visitor's centre in Clondalkin Village this week to learn about local history. We were intrigued to learn about the introduction of coinage to Ireland by the Vikings, about the animals that were kept in the monastery (we were able to touch some of the wool from the sheep at the exhibit) and enjoyed asking questions to the knowledgeable tour guides. We were fascinated by the photographs of buildings in the village from long ago and observed how the village has changed over time. Finally, we went to the garden to hear about some of the herbs such as camomile and lavender that the monks had grown in the monastery garden. We can't wait to go back soon.
