Wildflowers in the School Orchard

8th May 2025
Our orchard and wildflower garden is coming into bloom with all the sun we have been having recently. The fruit trees have already blossomed and we hope we will get some lovely apples, pears and plums this autumn.
We have let different kinds of wildflowers come up by themselves like dandelions, purple vetch, ox-eye daisies, dock, the odd thistle here and there, scarlet pimpernel, speedwell and a little patch of nettles to help the peacock butterfly.
We are also trying to help our pollinators and other insects by growing native primroses, poppies, honeysuckle, aquilegia, marigold, snap dragon, forget-me-not and wild strawberries. In the autumn as the plants die back, we will let the seeds from the flowers of our little wild patch drop into the soil to grow again next year or leave them for the birds to eat. πŸ₯€πŸŒΌπŸžπŸ›πŸ•Š
