Lego Spike in the senior classes
This week Ms. O'Brien linked in with our local education centre to borrow the Lego Spike Essential kits.
Spike Essential engages pupils in hands-on investigation of STEAM concepts (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths) while contributing to literacy, maths, and social-emotional development. We had great fun in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class being challenged to build things such as a ferris wheel, snow-mobile, cave car, tree-house, carousel, a swing and many more.
We were grouped into teams and each member of each team had an important role to play such as an engineer, supplier, builder and director. When our build was complete, we had to create the program to make it move, turn on the light or create a motion sensor. Some teams even challenged themselves to code more complex programs with multiple features. For each new build, we swapped around roles. We really enjoyed our week of STEAM based learning with Lego Spike.
