Winter Hibernators in the Garden

20th Dec 2022

Even in the cold of winter we still have life in the wildflower patch! There are lots of caterpillars taking refuge in the leaves from the cold weather, getting ready to form their chrysalis. They will emerge in spring as moths and butterflies, both important pollinators. Two of the species here in the garden are the angle shade caterpillar and large yellow underwing caterpillar. They will make their next appearance as moths similar to these ones here. Until then, they are safely over-wintering in the leaf mould box.πŸ›πŸ¦‹πŸ‚
